Lester Melvin "Mel" Cooper Jr., SAMS National Comptroller, 1950-2009

Post 1943 was proud to be able to provide a color guard for the internment of ashes for SAMS National Comptroller Mel Cooper on June 15, 2009.  The Cooper family was in attendance including his long-time companion, Pamela G. Tysinger, and their five children.  The color guard was comprised of Post 1943 members Dick Bevier, Kent McAden, Ian Todd, and Tom Williams.  David Corbett of Wolf River Pipes & Drums volunteered his services as a piper for the internment.


Derry Lynn White McAden, SAMS Post 1943 Family Member, 1942-2010

Derry Lynn White McAden, after a long and courageous battle against cancer, passed away September 10, 2010. Born July 21, 1942 to Howard and Virginia White. She was a 1960 graduate of Messick High and continued her education at Lambeth University in Jackson, TN.  Derry met her future husband, our own Post 1943 member, Kent McAden at a pool party in 1967 and they were married in 1969. After a long career as a real estate and legal secretary she retired from First American Title Insurance Co. in 2003.  Derry was preceded in death by her parents, Howard S. White Sr. and Virginia P. White.  She is survived by her husband of 41 years R. Kent McAden a son, Richard K. McAden, II, a daughter, Mindy Elizabeth Grahovac (Frank), a grand daughter Gabrielle Grahovac and her brother Howard S. White, Jr..  A memorial service was held at Evergreen Presbyterian Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
